If you're getting bakery boxes printed, you don't need to know every technical term before speaking to a printer. Most buyers come to us with a box they already use, a sample they like, or simply an idea of what they want their packaging to look like.
That is usually enough to get started.
The main decisions come down to the product you're packing, the type of board, how sturdy the box needs to be and the finish you want. Here's a simple way to understand your options.
1. First, What Are You Packing?
A pastry box and a large cake box shouldn't be treated as the same packaging job.
Think about the weight of the product, the size of the box and how it will actually be used. A box that looks great on a bakery counter still needs to hold its shape when it is carried home or sent out for delivery.
This is why it makes sense to understand the product first and then decide the board and construction accordingly.
2. Grey Back, White Back or SBS/FBB Board?
This is one of the first choices you'll come across when discussing printed bakery boxes.
Grey-back duplex board is generally the more economical option. The outer side provides a coated surface for printing while the inside remains grey. It works well where cost is important and the appearance of the inside of the box isn't a major concern.
White-back duplex board gives you a cleaner white appearance on the inside as well. For bakery packaging, that small difference can noticeably improve the overall presentation of the box.
Then you have SBS/FBB boards, which are generally chosen when the packaging needs a more premium look and feel. They offer a cleaner appearance and are commonly considered for higher-end cakes, chocolates, confectionery and premium bakery products.
You don't have to automatically choose the most expensive board. If you're selling an everyday pastry, grey-back duplex may do the job perfectly well. If you're selling a premium cake where presentation is a big part of the experience, spending more on the board may make sense.
3. What GSM Should You Use?
This is where choosing a number without looking at the actual box isn't particularly useful.
A larger cake box naturally needs different strength from a small cookie or pastry box. The dimensions, structure and weight being carried all matter.
If you already have a box that works well for you, send us the sample. We can check the board and construction and quote accordingly. You don't need to figure out the GSM yourself before contacting us.
4. Your Printing Doesn't Have to Be Complicated
Bakery packaging is one of those products where even a fairly simple design can look very good when it is printed properly.
Your logo, brand colours, product illustrations, photographs, social media details, QR code and other information can all become part of the box design.
Since these boxes are generally printed as flat sheets before being cut and folded, the artwork also needs to account for where every panel, fold and flap will eventually sit.
A design can look perfect on a computer screen and still feel badly positioned once it becomes an actual box if the layout hasn't been planned around the final structure.
5. Matte, Gloss or Varnish?
This really comes down to the look you're trying to achieve.
Gloss lamination works well when you want brighter colours and a shinier finish. Matte lamination gives the box a softer, more understated appearance and can work particularly well with cleaner premium designs.
You can also consider varnish where you want to protect and finish the printed surface without necessarily laminating the entire job.
There isn't one finish that works for every bakery. Sometimes simple artwork on a good board looks far better than a box where too many finishes have been added just for the sake of it.
6. Die Cutting Is What Turns the Printed Sheet Into Your Box
Once the board has been printed, it still has to be cut and creased into the required shape.
That's where die cutting comes in.
The die determines the shape of the box, its folds, flaps, locking areas and other structural details. If your packaging has an unusual opening, window, handle or particular shape, that is also planned at this stage.
Good printing gets most of the attention, but accurate cutting and creasing are just as important. If the box doesn't fold cleanly or the artwork doesn't line up properly after folding, even excellent printing won't save the finished product.
7. Already Have a Bakery Box? Just Send Us the Sample
This is probably the easiest way to work if you already know what you want.
If you're currently using a box and want us to quote for something similar, send us the physical sample. We can look at the size, board, printing, die cutting and finishing and provide a quotation accordingly.
The same applies if you've found a box style you like but don't know whether it is grey-back duplex, white-back duplex, SBS/FBB or what GSM has been used.
You don't need to come to us with every technical specification worked out beforehand.
8. Getting Your Bakery Boxes Printed With Us

Our general minimum order quantity is 3,000 full printing sheets. The actual number of finished bakery boxes depends on the size of the box and how many boxes can be accommodated on one sheet.
For example, smaller pastry or cookie boxes may allow several boxes to be printed from one sheet, while larger cake boxes will use more board per box. This means the finished quantity can vary depending on the box size and layout.

2. Which board is best for bakery box packaging: Grey Back Duplex, White Back Duplex or SBS/FBB?
The right board depends on the type of product, box size, required strength, appearance and budget.
Grey Back Duplex is generally a more economical option and is suitable for many regular bakery packaging requirements where cost is important.
White Back Duplex provides a cleaner white reverse side and is commonly used for cake boxes, pastry boxes and other bakery packaging where the inside appearance matters.
SBS/FBB is generally preferred for more premium packaging because of its surface quality and printing performance. It is often used for premium bakery, confectionery and gift packaging.
The board should also be selected according to the product being packed. A large cake box carrying a heavier product may require a different board specification from a small pastry or cookie box.
3. What GSM should I use for a bakery box?
The required GSM depends on the size of the box, the weight of the product and the construction of the box. A small box carrying cookies does not necessarily need the same board specification as a large cake or pastry box.
Higher GSM does not automatically mean that a box will be better. The stiffness and performance of the board, the dimensions of the box and its structural design all matter.
If you are unsure about the GSM, simply tell us what product you are packing and provide the box dimensions. If you already have a box, sending us a sample allows us to understand the existing specification and recommend a suitable board.
4. Can I get custom bakery boxes printed with my own logo, branding and artwork?
Yes. We manufacture custom printed bakery boxes according to the customer's branding and artwork requirements.
Your packaging can include your logo, brand colours, product information, QR codes, contact details, social media handles, illustrations and other design elements.
If you already have print-ready artwork, you can provide it for production. If you have an existing box but want to change the branding or design, you can also send us the sample and discuss the changes required.
5. Do you manufacture bakery window boxes with transparent windows?
Yes. We manufacture custom bakery boxes with die-cut transparent windows for cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, macarons, chocolates and other products.
The size and position of the window can be customised according to the product and box design. The window should be positioned carefully so that customers can see the product while the box still has sufficient strength for handling and transportation.

6. I already have a bakery box from another supplier. Can you manufacture the same box?
Yes. You can send us an existing box and we can examine it to understand the requirement.
We can assess its dimensions, board, approximate GSM, printing, die-cutting, folding structure, window and finishing. This is often much easier than trying to explain the box specifications over a phone call.
If you are not completely satisfied with your current box, you can also tell us what you want to improve, such as strength, printing quality, finish or cost. We can then suggest a suitable specification rather than simply reproducing the existing box.
7. What information should I provide to get a quotation for custom bakery boxes?
For an accurate quotation, it is helpful to provide the box dimensions, required quantity, product being packed, board or GSM if known, printing requirements, finishing requirements and delivery location.
If the box has a window, that should also be mentioned. If you have an existing box, sending us the physical sample is often the easiest option.
You do not need to know every technical specification. If you provide the sample along with your required quantity and delivery location, we can assess the construction and work out the appropriate manufacturing requirements.
8. What printing and finishing options do you offer for bakery boxes?
Our in-house printing facility includes a 5-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster offset press, which allows us to print detailed artwork, photographs, logos, brand colours and other packaging graphics.
Depending on the requirement, bakery boxes can also be finished with gloss lamination, matte lamination, varnishing and die cutting.
The appropriate finish depends on the artwork and the type of packaging. A premium bakery may prefer a particular surface finish for appearance, while another customer may prioritise durability and cost.
9. Do you use food-safe inks for bakery box and food packaging printing?
Yes. We use food-grade inks for applicable bakery and food packaging requirements.
The exact material and printing specification should still be discussed according to how the packaging will be used. For example, there is a difference between packaging where food is placed directly against the printed surface and packaging where the product is placed inside a tray, liner or wrapper.
If your customer, brand or application has specific food packaging requirements, share those with us before production so the appropriate material and printing specifications can be considered.
10. Can you help me choose the right board and GSM if I am not sure?
Yes. You do not need to know the technical specifications before approaching us.
Tell us what product you are packing, its approximate weight, the box dimensions and whether the box needs a window. Based on these details, we can recommend a suitable board and GSM.
If you currently purchase the same box from another supplier, sending us a sample is even better. We can examine the existing box and either reproduce the specification or suggest a change if you want better strength, appearance or cost efficiency.
11. How does the size of a bakery box affect its price?
The size of the box directly affects the amount of board required to manufacture each box. It also affects how many boxes can be fitted onto a printing sheet and how much material may be left over during die cutting.
This is why two bakery boxes with the same GSM and quantity can still have different prices.
When comparing quotations from different suppliers, the dimensions, board, GSM, printing, finishing and quantity should all be the same. A lower price does not necessarily mean a cheaper manufacturing cost if the box is being made with a different specification.
12. Does lamination make a bakery box stronger?
Lamination mainly improves the surface of the box. It can provide additional protection against scuffing, handling and limited moisture exposure and can also change the appearance of the packaging.
However, lamination should not be used as a substitute for selecting the correct board. The overall strength of a bakery box depends on the board, GSM, dimensions, die-cut design and construction.
If an existing box is collapsing or losing its shape, simply adding lamination may not solve the problem. The board and box structure should be looked at first.
13. How long does it take to manufacture custom bakery boxes?
Production time depends on the quantity, board availability, artwork approval, box design, finishing requirements and current production schedule.
A completely new box may require additional time to finalise the dimensions, die-cut structure and artwork before production starts. Repeat orders are generally easier to plan when the artwork and specifications have already been approved.
If the boxes are required for a festival, wedding season, product launch or new bakery opening, it is better to discuss the requirement early so there is enough time for production and transportation.
14. Do you supply custom bakery boxes outside Punjab?
Yes. We undertake bulk bakery box printing and packaging requirements for customers across India.
Once we receive the box specifications, quantity and delivery location, we can work out the production requirement and provide the applicable quotation and expected dispatch timeline.
For customers outside Punjab, transportation can make a significant difference to the final landed cost, especially when large quantities of boxes are being transported. It is therefore useful to compare the delivered cost rather than only the ex-factory box price.
15. Why is offset printing preferred for bakery box printing?
Offset printing is well suited to bakery packaging when large quantities of boxes need to be produced with consistent printing quality.
It can reproduce detailed artwork, photographs, logos, fine text and brand colours effectively. For bulk quantities, offset printing can also be more economical than printing methods intended for smaller runs.
